In 2023, STIEBEL ELTRON partnered with Loburn School in North Canterbury to address high humidity and CO2 levels in an existing classroom during renovations. After consultations with the Board of Trustees representative and the Principal, the VRL-C 870 G Premium was identified as the optimal solution due to its retrofit design, which eliminated the need for extensive ductwork in the space.

The installation, carried out by Craig Stevens of Dynamic Air & Electrical in January 2024, has been in operation since. Prior to this, a Tether monitoring system was set up to record air quality data before and after the installation, with monitoring continuing until June 2024, yielding impressive results.

Our school had identified poor ventilation as an issue in classrooms, we researched solutions and found STIEBEL ELTRON. We are really pleased with their ventilation solution. It has stopped humidity issues, eliminated large CO2 peaks, and operated quietly. We have ended up with a healthier environment for our students and staff.

– Guy Porter, Board of Trustees

Humidity levels reduced from a peak of 84% to 77%, and CO2 levels dropped from 3100 ppm to 1450 ppm in the classroom of 30 students. Additionally, the classroom now enjoys constant filtered fresh air, odour elimination, a more comfortable environment, and reduced heating costs.

The VRL-C 870 G operates 24/7 at a set flow rate, adjustable via a CO2 sensor that increases flow if CO2 levels rise above a set point. The unit also supports humidity and VOC sensors. It is quiet, non-intrusive, and requires minimal maintenance, with a simple annual filter service.

The VRL range also includes a 300 capacity unit for fewer people and ducted versions to suit various requirements.

We had noticed over a period that the CO2 levels in most of the classrooms at school were high, and at peak times, were well above recommended levels. At the same time, we were preparing for classroom refurbishments, and we took the opportunity to investigate air transfer systems that would alleviate the CO2 levels in the room. STIEBEL ELTRON were contacted, and they presented us with an option that could work in one of the rooms. Blair worked with the school to ascertain our needs and provided us with the VRL-C 870 G Premium. The unit has been working inside the classroom for over 4 months now and test results show a dramatic improvement in air levels. The spikes that were evident prior to the installation now do not occur. The unit itself, although large, is extremely quiet and efficient. I can highly recommend STIEBEL ELTRON and Blair Reed.
